Deckover Trailers for Sale

The case for a deckover is width, start to finish. A trailer with fenders gives you a deck around 83 inches across, and the tires own the rest. A deckover puts the tires underneath, so the load floor runs the full footprint. In practice that changes the load plan, not just the number: a forklift sets pallets from whichever side the stack is on, without threading forks between fenders. Standard 48-by-40 pallets go two across with room left for straps at the rub rail. Bales run two abreast instead of single file, which is the difference between one trip and two on a hay day. And an implement that's wider than it is heavy — a folded shredder, a disc, a rake — sits flat on the deck instead of perching on fender rails. If your loads are wide, boxy, or set by machine, you're on the right page.

The height is the trade for the width. A deckover's floor sits roughly 34 inches off the pavement — close to a foot above a fender-style deck — and forklifts don't care, but anything that drives on does. Ramp length is the fix: on a 34-inch deck, going from 5-foot to 8-foot ramps takes the climb from about 35 degrees down to about 20, which is why the heavy flip-over and spring-assist ramp options — PJ sells theirs under the Monster Ramps name — earn their money. Dovetail versions drop the last few feet of deck toward the ground and gentle the angle further. Some builds go after the height itself: pierced-beam frames run the axles through the main beams instead of under them, which lowers the deck a few inches without giving up any width. If the machine is low-slung or already tall enough to worry about bridges, the trailer built around that problem is a lowboy — one lot over, and we stock those too.

The hitch is the price fork. Bumper-pull deckovers hold down the low end of the $0-to-$31,099 spread — tandem-axle units in the 14,000-lb class, sized for pallet work and implements behind a pickup with a ball mount. Gooseneck deckovers are the other two-thirds of the shelf: longer decks, heavier axle sets, ratings that climb toward 40,000, and prices that climb with them to the top of the range. Both ends of that range are thin rows; the middle is where the trailers actually are.
