Three pieces of hardware, and a working crew touches all three every day.

Start with the sides. Tall mesh walls take the place of a low rail. A heaped load of brush or mulch stays put at highway speed, and the wind blows through the mesh instead of dragging on it.

Next is the front of the deck. A bulkhead there gives the trimmer and blower racks something to mount to. Your string trimmer rides locked upright instead of sliding around under a mower.

Count mowers, then count deck. A 60-inch zero-turn plus a push mower and hand tools works out of a 6x12 or 7x14. Two zero-turns want the length of a 7x16, so the second machine isn't parked against the gate.

For a working crew, the sticker isn't the whole measure. Price it in yards. Take what your average stop pays, count the stops on a week's route, and see how many weeks of mowing cover the trailer. Run that math before you walk the lot. The size question usually answers the money question, because the trailer that carries the second mower is the one that carries the second crew's revenue.

Financing and rent-to-own are both on the table, with the loan's full cost on paper up front. Rent-to-own is there for the operator the banks make wait: a first-season business without two years of books. Ask the store which route costs less over the life of the agreement. If cash covers it, cash is the cheapest trailer.

Last piece of the money talk: listed prices are cash prices. Tax, title, and the doc fee ride on top, and they vary by state. So before the route math goes final, get the store's out-the-door quote on the trailer you picked.

What you're buying is a season on the route. A wheel bearing is a cheap part, but a trailer standing still in June costs you every yard on the schedule. So where you buy matters as much as what you buy, and that half of the deal is ours to hold up.
