Ramps are a routine you repeat every load. Drag them out. Set the spacing to your machine's stance, climb the angle, then put them away. A tilt deletes the routine. Pull the latch, the deck tips, and you drive on. Your machine's own weight brings the deck back down level. Some machines make the choice for you. Scissor lifts, walk-behind rollers, and low-set mower decks carry their weight on hard little tires with almost nothing underneath. The sharp corner where a ramp meets the bed is where they hang up or lose grip. A tilt has no corner to clear. The deck lays down into one continuous grade, and on our full-tilt models that grade runs around 11 degrees. If your machine climbs ramps without complaint, you don't need the tilt. A fixed deck with a ramp gate is a simpler trailer with fewer moving parts.

On a full tilt, the whole deck pivots as one piece, tongue to tail. Nothing stays level while you load. That's fine when the machine is the whole cargo: a mower, a lift, a car. A split-deck tilt keeps a stationary front section fixed over the tongue. It runs around four feet on most models, and only the rear section tips. That front section is the working difference. A toolbox, a pallet of skid steer attachments, or strapped-down cargo rides up there dead level. The machine drives up the tilting section behind it. Either way, the deck comes down easy, not hard. Gravity decks settle through a cushion cylinder with an adjustable valve. The valve sets how fast the tilt travels, so a loaded deck eases flat instead of slamming, and a positive latch holds it there for the road. Tell us what rides up front and what drives on behind. What moves the price here isn't size first. It's how the deck gets its motion. A powered tilt carries a hydraulic pump, its own battery, and a cylinder strong enough to lift the deck under load. That hardware prices a powered deck above a gravity deck at the same rating. If you're loading once or twice a day, a gravity deck does the job for less money.

A price tag here is the cash price. Tax, title and registration, and the doc fee follow it, and they run different in Texas than in Missouri. Ask the counter for your out-the-door number and plan off that one.

On a tilt, deck length is a balance question before it's a fit question. The machine has to drive far enough up the deck that its weight crosses the pivot. That's what levels the trailer out. So the number that matters is what your machine puts on the ground, not its overall length. A skid steer rides on a wheelbase of roughly four feet and settles almost any tilt deck without drama. Tracked machines want more room. A four-ton mini excavator lays better than seven feet of steel track on the deck. It belongs on one of the longer tilting sections. Or we'll pull one in from another store. A car is the long case: plan on 20 feet or more of tilting deck, so the wheelbase clears the pivot with room to strap down. You don't have to run this math yourself. Bring the numbers off the machine's serial plate, or just its model name, and the counter will match footprint to deck while you stand there.
