Before you order locks & security

A few things to check so the part fits the first time, or just tell us what you’ve got and the parts team will spec it with you.

Match the coupler
A coupler lock has to fit your coupler: 2″, 2-5/16″, or gooseneck. It’s stamped on the latch.
King-pin by trailer type
Gooseneck and 5th-wheel trailers use a king-pin lock sized to the pin. Tell us the trailer type.
Receiver pin size
Lockable hitch pins fit 1-1/4″ or 2″ receivers. Give us the size.
Key alike
Locking down a whole trailer? We can key multiple locks alike so one key runs them all.

Locks & Security Accessories FAQ

What lock fits my trailer coupler?
Match the lock to the coupler style and size. Ball-in-coupler locks fill the socket of a standard 2" or 2 5/16" bumper-pull coupler so it can't be dropped onto a ball; latch-style locks pin the coupler latch shut; gooseneck couplers take a lock made for their inner tube and locking collar. Check the coupler size stamped on top before buying — most locks are size-specific.
How do I keep my trailer from being stolen?
Layer it. A coupler lock stops the drive-up-and-hitch theft; a wheel lock (boot) stops the trailer from rolling at all; a hitch pin lock keeps your ball mount and hitch from walking off; and parking with the tongue facing away from the street adds friction. No single lock stops a determined thief — the goal is to make your trailer the slowest, loudest target on the lot.
Do trailer locks actually prevent theft?
They're deterrents, not guarantees — anything can be defeated with enough time and tools. What locks do is add time, noise, and visibility, which is exactly what opportunistic thieves avoid. Hardened one-piece locks with shielded shackles resist bolt cutters far better than bargain padlocks, and combining two different lock types beats one expensive lock. Record your VIN and keep photos; it matters if the worst happens.
