Before you order tires & wheels

A few things to check so the part fits the first time, or just tell us what you’ve got and the parts team will spec it with you.

Read the ST size
It’s on the sidewall (e.g. ST235/80R16). ST (Special Trailer) tires are built for trailer loads; passenger (P) or LT tires are not a substitute.
Match the load range
Meet or exceed the letter (C/D/E) stamped on your current tire. It sets the max load and inflation. Never step down.
Know the bolt pattern
Wheels are sized by diameter and bolt pattern (e.g. 16″ 8-on-6.5). Count the lugs and measure the circle before ordering.
Tire, wheel, or both
Tell us whether you need the tire, the wheel, or a mounted assembly. We can supply any of the three.

Tires & Wheels FAQ

What do the numbers on a trailer tire mean?
A size like ST205/75R15 breaks down as: ST means Special Trailer (built for towing, not passenger use), 205 is the tread width in millimeters, 75 is the sidewall height as a percentage of that width, R means radial construction, and 15 is the wheel diameter in inches. The load range letter (C, D, or E) sets the maximum load and inflation pressure — match or exceed what your trailer left the factory with.
Can I use passenger car tires on my trailer?
No. ST (Special Trailer) tires have stiffer sidewalls and higher load ratings than passenger tires of the same size, which controls sway and handles the vertical load a trailer puts on them. Passenger and light-truck tires on a trailer axle wear unevenly and run hot. Stick with ST-rated tires at or above your axle rating.
How do I know which wheel fits my trailer?
Three things have to match: the bolt pattern (count the lugs and measure the circle they sit on — 5 on 4.5", 6 on 5.5", and 8 on 6.5" are the common trailer patterns), the wheel diameter, and the wheel load rating, which needs to cover its share of the axle rating. Bring an existing wheel or those measurements to the parts counter and we can match it.
