Before you order cargo control
A few things to check so the part fits the first time, or just tell us what you’ve got and the parts team will spec it with you.
- Rate by working load
- Straps and chains are rated by Working Load Limit, not break strength. Total WLL has to cover your load per DOT.
- Match the anchor
- E-track, F-track, D-rings, or stake pockets. The fitting has to lock to what’s on your trailer.
- Length and end fitting
- Give us strap length and the end hardware (flat hook, J-hook, chain claw).
- Use road-legal chain
- Binder chain is graded: G70 for transport. We stock the legal grade for over-the-road use.

Cargo Control FAQ
- What's the difference between working load limit and break strength?
- Break strength is the load at which the strap or chain fails; working load limit (WLL) is the rated safe load, typically a third of break strength. Always plan with WLL — and know that federal securement rules require the combined WLL of your tie-downs to be at least half the weight of the cargo, with minimum tie-down counts based on cargo length and weight.
- Should I use ratchet straps or chains and binders?
- Chains with binders are the standard for machinery, vehicles, and anything with sharp corners or oily surfaces — they don't abrade and their WLL grades are stamped right on the links. Ratchet straps are faster, kinder to painted and finished loads, and right for most general freight. Many loads use both: chains on the machine, straps on the attachments.
- What is E-track and why would I want it?
- E-track is slotted steel rail that mounts to a trailer wall or deck. Fittings snap into any slot, so anchor points go exactly where the load needs them instead of where the factory welded a D-ring. In an enclosed trailer it turns the whole wall into adjustable tie-down points — straps, wheel chocks, and shelf brackets all click into the same rail.
