A tandem-axle trailer has two axles positioned near one another, often connected by an equalized leaf-spring suspension. Compared with a similar single-axle design, tandem axles can provide greater rated capacity and different ride and tracking characteristics, while adding tires, brakes, maintenance, turning scrub, and empty weight. The trailer’s GVWR and component ratings, not axle count alone, set capacity.
A tarp kit covers a dump-trailer load with mesh or solid fabric using a manual crank or electric motor. It helps contain loose material and reduces debris loss in transit, but it does not replace correct loading, rated capacity, tailgate latching, or other cargo securement. Covering and securement requirements vary by load and jurisdiction.
A telescopic hoist uses a multi-stage hydraulic cylinder that extends directly to raise the dump body. It can provide a steep dump angle with fewer linkage parts than a scissor design and is common on heavier dump trailers. Cylinder rating, mounting position, hydraulic pressure, body geometry, and load placement determine real lifting performance.

A tilt trailer loads equipment with no ramps at all: the deck pivots on a hinge (gravity tilt) or hydraulic cylinder, touching its tail to the ground so machines drive straight up a continuous, shallow slope. That makes tilts the go-to for low-clearance loads, scissor lifts, forklifts, lowered cars, that would high-center on ramps. Full-tilt decks pivot entirely; split-deck models keep a stationary front section for a toolbox or second machine.
Tongue weight is the downward force the trailer's coupler puts on the hitch, the single biggest factor in whether a trailer tows straight or sways. The rule of thumb: load a bumper pull so 10–15% of its total weight is on the tongue, and a gooseneck so 15–25% is on the ball. Too little tongue weight causes dangerous sway at speed; too much overloads the truck's rear axle. Adjust it by moving cargo forward or back over the axles.

A torsion axle uses rubber cords inside the axle tube to provide spring action independently at each wheel instead of external leaf springs. It can support a lower deck and has no leaf-spring shackles or equalizers, but alignment, load sharing, repair options, and ride characteristics differ from a leaf-spring suspension. Compare the complete axle and suspension rating for the trailer’s intended terrain and load.
A tube frame uses closed rectangular or square structural sections for the main rails or crossmembers. The closed shape resists twisting and creates clean mounting surfaces, which is useful on enclosed, utility, and aluminum trailers. Material thickness, section size, welds, coatings, drainage, and certified ratings matter because a closed tube is not automatically moisture-proof or stronger than every channel or I-beam design.
